Bodo (बड़ो) also called Boro (बर'), is a Sino-Tibetan language, primarily spoken by the Boro people of North-east India, Nepal and Bengal; basically BTR region and some corners of different districts of Assam. It is the official language of the Bodoland autonomous region and a co-official language of the state of Assam in India. It is also a language one of listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. Since 1975 the language had been written using the Devanagari script. It was formerly written using Latin and Bengali or Assamese scripts. Some scholars have suggested that the language has to use its own script known as Deodhai but presently it is completely destructed.
Bodo literature developed when the native speakers became conscious of the significance of their own culture. The religious and social reform movement led by Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, in the first decade of the last century, created awareness among the people. The first Bodo magazine, Bibar, was published in 1920. Since that period, the Bodo literature has been developing thoroughly.
The Bodo department of Dhamdhama Anchalik College has been established to fulfill the demand of the students and the area itself, as a large number of students belong to Bodo Community. The department was established in the year 2004. The college received permission from G.U. for a general course in 2007. Since 2005 the department has been offering both major and general courses. Permission for both major and Elective Bodo was received in 2013. Since its inception, the department has been endeavoring to make the students fit in the wide spectrum of demands of the present time, providing knowledge regarding language, literature and culture. The department gains the place of pride as it has been producing first-class holders consistently. The department also produces a Wall Magazine “THUNLAI BIDAM” (Tissue of Literature) to vent the creative ability of the students. The college could be able to receive the Govt. Concurrence for Bodo (MIL) course in 2009.
The department will take necessary steps, concerns with the excellent performance for the students in near future in connection with workshop, seminar and drama playing. Such actions will be taken once a week in the coming days. The department faculty members will observe the distinctive interest of the students. After observing them, students will be motivated through their fascinated ways. Morality is an essential part of human society though it is not included in the syllabus of different semesters. So, our efforts, that every kind positive direction of the literature will be stressed to utilize students’ practical life through the proper systems of the society. The exertion is regarded as morality, it will continue in favor of the students through the department.
The Bodo Department has been following the syllabus of Gauhati University (GU) since its inception. To provide, better education and training for the qualitative development of human resources is the basic goal. “बऱ’ थुनलाइनि गोदान सोरबिथिं जों दागोना” (Modern Environment Will Create In Bodo Literature) is our motto. The faculty members of the department have been annoying industriously each and every day to make efficient students. The department encourages creating different genres of literature for the students as well as cultural activities. The foremost procedure of the department is to make perfect knowledgeable students, concerned with the scheduled syllabus. It encourages the students to make strong to the strongest in their capability into the angles of Linguistic, Literature, Culture, Social and Physical. The consultation among the faculty members about the performance of daily classes is taken, which is the regular necessity action of the department.
